Tim Wynne-Jones: On Writing

Every author has their own writing process - whether it's Philip Pullman writing in a shed, or Patrick Ness coming up with ideas whilst on the run. So we asked Tim Wynne-Jones what his working environment was like, and also if he had any tips that aspiring writers could sink their teeth into.

My Working Environment

My office is a mess. Just look at it! But I know where everything is and, hey, writing isn’t pretty. I’m up in the loft of my house in the woods. We live on 76 acres of rough bush land in eastern Ontario. Yes, there are bears, since you ask, but luckily they don’t tend to come up to my loft, as long as I keep the front door closed.

Writing Tips

I have tons of tips for writers of all ages. They’re all listed on my website: www.timwynne-jones.com

Just go to “Tips” and scroll down the menu; there are three items.

The best thing is the last one. The full title is “Things to do while you’re waiting for an idea”, which is a joke, really, because no writer really waits for ideas; you prod and tickle and sneak up on ideas – which is what these writing games are meant to do.
