The Clocks Go Back... and we launch Daylight Saving

Today, in fact right this second, the clocks are going back an hour. For most of us, this is a fantastic day as it means we get an extra hour to stay wrapped under the duvet, safe in our beds. But for one of the main characters in Edward Hogan's debut young adult novel, Daylight Saving, this time of year brings nothing but fear...

Intrigued? We don't want to reveal too much about the book, but it's a thriller ghost story by a new voice in YA fiction that will have you utterly gripped. We can also tell you that this very night, when the clocks go back, is one that fills the characters with dread.

To countdown to publication in February, we've created an animated version of the cover, complete with a countdown clock. Drag your mouse over it to really see the full effects.

It's completely shareable, so you can send it to your friends and place it on your own website too.

What do you think of it? It's the first time we've launched an animated cover of this kind, we'd love to hear what you think about the cover and the book concept? Leave a comment below for your chance to win a very early proof copy of the book.

I was lucky enough to get a proof copy of this fantastic book. That cover's brilliant ... I could play with it all day!
  2. Friendly Neighbourhood Bookseller

That's gorgeous! I'd better not spend too long, I could easily play with that for ages. The book looks really good as well.

I hope there'll be more covers like that in the future. Thanks for sharing it! I'm really looking forward to this book now.

I have to admit, this sounds intriguing. And a "thriller ghost story"... I haven't read much scary ghost stories in a while so this would be right up my street!

Wow, fab. Great to see technology used in an way that doesn't compromise the best things about book design. Two thumbs up from us innit.

Great combination of motion graphics with print design. love it. usually the static print design does not go any furthur than on paper but so often the possibilities of animation are there. good job!

Wow. Sounds really intriguing and I love the cover concept.
It's about time the story was allowed to leak out of a book like this :)

Awesome. The shape of things to come. Can you combine it with a book trailer, I wonder? Characters on an animated cover "talking" to you. Or add some sound effects too. I wish I knew more about this kind of thing so I could go and play...
  16. jem movie-book

Great cover, we do animated covers at movie-book.co.uk

Awwwh-summmm. Debbie up there has some great comments: sound effects...and now I have to check out more animated covers.
  18. design4life

Well, it's real cool, but it's Flash right? So it can't be embedded in the ebook, and I don't think it works as a cover image on Amazon, so what's it for beyond websites?
  19. dolltastic

I like this book cover!! Now if you could only do it on a 'real' book that would be something!
  20. Alan King

The cover is very intreging making me want to read the book to find out if you can save someone from something that has already happened. in addition I love the water effect on the cover, just wish more ebooks had this affect added
  21. cat jones

Amazing, love it. But how does it work with an e book? Could play with it for ages!
  22. Not a Career Girl

Shame it doesn't work on an iPad, still, I'd love to read it.
  23. Pippa Ainsworth
