So the weather might be a bit changeable at the moment for it too feel much like summer (in London this week the sky has been filled with sun one moment, then hailstones and thunder the next) but it is June now which can only mean one thing: the summer holiday season is fast approaching...
And what better way to relax, whatever the weather, than with an Undercover Read! This month we've got two amazing Undercover offerings.
The first is Life: An Exploded Diagram. Mal Peet is an exceptional author who has won both the Carnegie Medal and the Guardian Children's Fiction Prize, and his latest offering is a coming of age story set against the backdrop of the Cuban Missile Crisis. It's had some amazing reviews already!"Brilliant, especially in that it breaks pretty much every single alleged 'rule' of writing for teenagers. Witty, supersmart, heartbreakingly generous, it's so good you almost want to keep it a secret." Patrick Ness
"His finest work to date, but turns hysterically funny, sad, poignant, bitter and rude, but always with that unfakeable sense of deep truth... confirms Peet's position not just as a great writer of children's fiction, but one of our best novelists, full stop." Anthony McGowan
"Spine-tingling, loin-buzzing, butterflies-in-the-stomach evocation of what it feels like to be young" Caroline Sanderson, Books for Keeps - read the full review here
Make sure you watch our trailer, and you can get even more of a feel for it by reading 6 extracts on our blog tour, listed below!
The second book just perfect for summer reading is The Sky is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson, a stunning novel that we hope will speak to women everywhere, from teenagers up! Moving and funny, the characters are memorable and engaging.
We published it last year, in a gorgeous design with full colour poems scattered throughout, a flexi cover and an elastic bookmark for a diary feel. For teens this is a story of first love and family life, for older readers it is a nostalgic celebration of dreams, love and sisterhood. The book is now out in paperback, and it looks just as stunning!
If you've already read the book, what do you think of the cover, compared to the old one? We'd love to hear your thoughts.
If you haven't read the book yet, take a look at our trailer and read just a few of the many amazing reviews we've had. Interestingly, the trailer for The Sky is Everywhere was directed by the same Director of the Life: An Exploded Diagram - we think there is definitely a similar style...
"How grief and love run side by side is sensitively and intensely explored in this energetic, poetic and warm-blooded novel" Julia Eccleshare, The Guardian
"Just might be your new favourite book... Really unique." Sugarscape.com
"I LOVE this book, couldn't stop reading it!" Chicklish.com
"the book of the year so far... For me this book is perfection... if you read one book this year make it The Sky is Everywhere." CarlyBennett.blogspot.com
'Utterly absorbing, so richly developed and full of emotion. I expected good things from Jandy Nelson, and instead I got greatness.' The Crooked Shelf
'I'd also say this book was beautiful, amazing, heartbreaking, incredible, exquisite, outstanding . . .this is definitely the best book I've read in 2010 so far and one of my new all-time favourites. All the praise in the world can't do it justice though - it's the type of a book you have to experience for yourself and I strongly recommend that you read it' Bookalicious Ramblings
Both of these amazing books are available at Amazon, Waterstones, The Book Depository, and the Walker Website now.
