Check out Martyn Bedford's advice for aspiring writers...

Here, in a nutshell, is the advice I give to new or developing writers:

1.    Read. A lot.
2.    Keep a notebook with you at all times. Use it.
3.    Write. A lot.
4.    Rewrite.

Of these, 3 and 4 are the ones that matter most. By all means, read “how to” guides on writing and attend creative writing classes and join a writers’ group, but everything there is to learn about writing you’ll discover for yourself simply by writing.
